About Us
Jim and Sarah Hinton welcome you to Valley View cottages.
Jim and Sarah moved to West Wales in October 2007. We re-located from Maidenhead, Berkshire in search of a ‘Life in the Country’ with more space and freedom for our 2 year old son, Ethan. Another huge reason for the move was our dream to run our own holiday cottage business.
The property we settled on was ideal. Two Welsh stone barns and a detached house sit in 3 acres of gardens and woodland, with amazing views across surrounding fields and valleys. The barns needed a huge amount of work in order to turn them into luxury holiday cottages, but plans were being drawn up before we even exchanged contracts and planning was granted at the end of March 2008. Work began immediately.
While all this was going on, we found out we were expecting another baby and our little girl, Scarlett was born on 5th August 2008 amidst serious building work! Now that the renovations are complete, it is nice to return to the peace and quiet and of course admire all the hard work that went into the project.
When you come to Valley View Cottages for your holiday, you will be guaranteed a very warm welcome from us and our two Labradors, Charlie and Jack. In the future, we are intending to be more self-sufficient in producing our own meat, eggs, vegetables and fruit. We have already had success with our vegetable garden this year, helped by our two pigs (they were very efficient at turning over the soil and fertilizing it for us in preparation for planting). Our ex-battery chickens arrived in November 2010 and have been laying superb eggs ever since! Of course, they now have a lovely house to live in and have access to a large outdoor area all day long, which they got used to very quickly after just a few hesitant steps.
We are very fortunate to be surrounded by superb wildlife, namely the magnificent buzzards which we have living in the woods at the top of the track, one of which appeared on Ethan’s climbing frame during the summer – bold as brass! There is an abundance of other bird life such as Red Kites, woodpeckers, owls, pheasants, the rare yellowhammer (we have a pair in the garden) and many more.
We hope you will come and stay with us and experience the delights that this part of Wales has to offer.
